Human Computer Interfaces

The goal of our research is to change the way computing devices present information to users and to enhance how the users experience the information. The combinations of users, information, and devices are diverse; ranging from a business user receiving real time reports on a PDA, to consumers enjoying personal media on game consoles. We concentrate on these three areas:

bulletVisualization: For business users, the key to understanding complex business data is the ability to see it, understand it, and share that understanding with others. Our visualization research focuses on approaches that give a business audience a clearer understanding of their enterprise.

bulletInteraction: We believe that visualization of information must be coupled with the tools necessary to act on that information. We are exploring novel modes of interaction that allow multiple people to simultaneously interact with data, content, and each other.

bulletExperience: Technologies such as very large screens, new content sources, and high quality graphics allow us to experience information in new ways. For the business user, this represents another level of visualization and collaboration. In the consumer space, our research is focused on adding socialization and personalization to new forms of content.
